Amsterdam: Tulips, Laughs, and Food That Carried the Day

My first stop in Amsterdam was Keukenhof, and honestly, nothing could have prepared me for it. The tulips were the main event, of course, but what really caught my eye was the mix of wildflowers woven throughout the grounds. Every turn felt like a new painting. The colors were bold, soft, and everything in between. The gardens didn’t just look beautiful, they felt intentional, like every flower had a purpose. It was truly a sight to see and one of those moments where you just pause and take it all in.

Next up was the Heineken Experience, and I had way more fun than I expected. Learning how Heineken started, how the beer is made, and how it grew into a globally recognized brand was actually really interesting. But the real highlight? The experience itself. We personalized four beer bottles, did a tasting at the original brewery, and went through so many interactive activities. My mom could not stop laughing, and honestly, that made it even better.

Now let’s talk about what really mattered… THE FOOD!

We made a stop at Fabel Friet and ordered the truffle mayo and parmesan fries. When I say they were banging, I mean that. Crispy, flavorful, and honestly, we should’ve gotten two orders. No regrets… well, maybe a little.

Right after that, we headed to Pat’s Poffertjes for Dutch mini pancakes. I had to go all in with butter, caramel, and strawberries. They came out piping hot, and I definitely burnt my tongue because I couldn’t wait. Worth it.

The pizza evening cruise? I’ll be honest… it was nothing to write home about. If I had to rate it, it’s getting a 1 out of 10. But the night redeemed itself when we managed to grab a last-minute reservation at The Seafood Bar.

And let me tell you… that was the real win.

Our food came out in about 10 minutes, and everything hit. My scallops were cooked perfectly, my mule was exactly what I needed, and the fish and chips were solid. But the aïoli? That’s what took it over the top. I wish I could bottle that up and bring it home with me.

All in all, Amsterdam gave me exactly what I needed. It’s a port city, so yes, there’s a little grit and grime to it, but that’s part of the charm. It feels real. And the food? Absolutely popping.

One thing I didn’t love though was the stroopwafel from Firma Stroop. Yes, it was hot and made to order, but it just wasn’t for me. Sometimes the hype doesn’t match your taste, and that’s okay.

But overall? Between the flowers, the laughs with my mom, and the food that truly delivered, this trip was everything I needed it to be.
